A smile finally

Tonight I was fortunate to be able to make it back over to Riley’s to be with my family. I think we’re all still processing...trying to be strong and on our knees in prayer.

Cynthia shared that she knows God is with them. When she is having a moment of weakness Matt steps in and is solid as a rock. When Matt begins to falter she is a pillar of strength. That is as it should be...they are getting through this together.

I had the pleasure of delivering a very special gift to Jackson tonight. Over the course of the past 6 months I’ve had the honor of working with our school resource officer, Sean Higgins. We’ve made quite a team working together in our schools. He gave me a gift for Jackson today. Cynthia and I were both incredibly touched by the words on the paper. He has never met Jackson, and his reference to superhero’s was absolutely perfect. Jackson loves his new badge and smiled as he talked about being a police officer and getting to tell his mom what to do. A big thank you to Officer Higgins and the Mt. Zion Police Department for their thoughtfulness and prayers.

There were other smiles today too. Since being admitted to the hospital Jackson has been irritated. He hasn’t wanted any hugs, or to even be touched at all really. Today there were smiles and hugs...another small win. He sat happily and played video games and was even writing his letters when I left.

Despite being on morphine and lortab for his discomfort they can’t seem to get his pain under control. It’s incredibly difficult to see him so uncomfortable. Please pray with us that they can get his pain under control soon. He also started another round of chemo this evening. Pray that it eradicates this disease from his body with minimal discomfort. We know the fight has just begun.

  1. Oh Amy, this bought tears to my eyes. That certainly is a very special and thoughtful gift and note. I am praying that Jackson's pain subsides quickly and for strength for Matt and Cynthia. Sending lots of love and hugs to you all.
